Authorised retailer for Movado Watches. Movado is one of the iconic American watch brands, possibly best known for its Museum Watch. The Museum Watch was the first and, as of May 2017, the only timepiece ever to be selected for a permanent place in the New York Museum of Modern Art. This watch was designed by the artist Nathan George Horwitt in 1947. The design is very simple and elegant, featuring a black dial without any numbers or time markings. The only mark on this watch was a single gold dot at the 12 o’clock position symbolising the sun at high noon. This single dot is a distinctive feature in many Movado watches.

The History of Movado Watches

Movado was founded in 1881 under the name LAI Ditescheim & Freres SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. The founder of Movado watches was Achille Ditisheim, a gifted watchmaker who worked with his 6 employees manufacturing all of the watches by hand. Movado watches received acclaim around the world at different trade fairs over the coming years. The Museum Watch was created in 1947 the Museum Watch was created by Nathan George Horwitt. This was added to the permanent collection of the New York Museum of Modern Art in 1960. Movado heavily promoted this watch after Horwitt’s death and the single gold dot became a distinctive feature of Movado watches. In 1983 the company was bought by Gedalio Grinberg and the headquarters was moved to New Jersey. Movado now create watches for a number of large fashion houses such as Hugo Boss, Juicy Couture and Scuderia Ferrari as well as their own luxury collection.
